URGENT NEWSLETTER 2 August 1999

 Last Thursday, the Council ran out of time so the Metrowater issue
 has been rescheduled for:
5pm  - Auckland City Town Hall Council Chamber  -  5pm
AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL MEETING
THIS WEDNESDAY 4 Aug
Please be on time - it starts with the Water Pressure Group deputation.
We don't want a new tariff  - it’s Metrowater we don't want!
We want a poll to be held by Council on the abolition of Metrowater - we
believe that two Councillors will be moving that way at this meeting.
 
Last week about 70 members turned out to be there. Let's better that number
this Wednesday.

FICKLING CENTRE MEETINGS - 7.30pm Wednesdays
This week's meeting is cancelled because of the Council meeting. But as
from 11 August we are back there regularly. There are usually 45 - 60
members present at this democratic, organisational forum. The wet winter
won't wash us away !

VECTOR POWER PRIVATISATION THREAT
The Energy Consumers Trust is looking like privatising Auckland's
electricity supply  retail  company, Vector.
Following a visit to our weekly meeting last Wednesday night, by a person
keen to get organised around the VECTOR  issue, numerous Water  Pressure
Group members signed up to support the initiative.

On Thursday, the formation of the POWER PRESSURE GROUP was announced. While
this group is entirely separate from WPG, a reply to this email can lead
you to details of the PPG.

NEW WATER PRESSURE GROUP LEAFLET IN TRAIN
We are planning a new leaflet to further build the wastewater boycott. This
needs your financial and active support to help distribute throughout
